An ancient market town, Alnwick is still the commercial and social hub of the area. At the centre of Alnwick is the market square, flanked by the Northumberland Hall and the town hall, which hosts the regular markets and festivals detailed below.

The town boasts a wide range of shops selling local produce, arts, crafts and gifts. Also, there are branches of Sainsbury's, Morrison's, Lidl, Homebase, Argos and WH Smiths.
