Craster is known far and wide as the home of Craster kippers and many visitors make a point of visiting the smokehouse and taking some home.

Once an industry that relied on locally caught herring and hand labour to split the fish, an industry served by several smokehouses in Craster, Craster kippers are now produced only by L. Robson & Sons. Established over a hundred years ago and working in premises that are even older, Robson's use first class ingredients and traditional methods to produce a highly prized delicacy.

Best known for their kippers, Robson's applies the same high standards to smoking salmon and haddock.

These products and a wide range of fresh fish, shellfish and other locally produced produce such as Turnbull's bacon, Northumbrian cheeses and cakes & biscuits from Heatherslaw Bakery are available from the shop in the smokehouse, situated opposite the Jolly Fisherman.

They are also available online, so you don't need to travel to Craster to buy the 'real thing'.

However, if you are in craster, you don't have to wait until you get home to enjoy a taste of the sea, try the Craster Fish Restaurant, in the smokehouse premises.
